KIRU
Do you want to refine your surgical skills? Then you’ve come to the right place!
The Surgical Committee, or KirU, was established based on the interest that many medicine students have expressed in being able to practice surgery and everything that is related to this fascinating subject.
There are hundreds of similar associations around the world that work to create opportunities for interested students to practice already during the education - e.g. suturing, ligation technique and laparoscopy. Another important purpose the committee fulfills is to create natural contact network between students and surgeons, for example through interest lectures in e.g. neurosurgery, transplant surgery and surgical anatomy.
During each semester, a number of workshops are usually arranged. The two most common are basic suture workshops and continuation workshops, which are given several times during the semester.
Basic suturing workshop (BSW) is aimed at beginners and those who want to master the basic techniques in suturing.
Continuation workshop (FSW) is instead aimed at those who want to take the step further and learn, among other things, continuous and intracutaneous sutures as well as hand knots and a variety of other useful techniques! In addition to this, we try to arrange an opportunity for minor surgery where we practice removing the naevus (birthmarks or liver spots) from pig's feet with the help of the techniques we practiced at BSW and FWS.
Interested in participating?
If you are interested in participating in our events, like our Facebook-page, this is where all registration links to our workshops are released. Everyone is welcome regardless of semester and previous experience! We look forward to seeing you at our workshops.
KIRU-MASTERS
The KIRU-masters are responsible for all surgical workshops and are therefore responsible for further training the association's future doctors in the subject of surgery.
