NEW STUDENT

New student? Welcome to Lund!

The start of the semester is approaching and the streets of Lund will once again be filled with students! Both by older experienced, but also by younger inexperienced students. Hymns are sung for one's association, competitions are held and strong bonds are built between newfound friends. This organized chaos is called the Novice Period and it is an experience you will cherish for the rest of your life!

Some of the students occupying the streets belong to Medicinska Föreningen, that is: Us! In our arsenal we have audiologists, biomedicines, speech therapists and medical students. During your novice period, the senior students within the same field of study as you will guide you through your first weeks in Lund.

But what does a novice period really mean?

When you arrive in Lund, you are a novice. For us at MF, this does not mean that you aren’t anyone, but that you are about to become a part of something big! After a two-week novice period with fantastic activities, we celebrate Partus together. Partus, which is Latin for childbirth, symbolizes the passage from being a novice to becoming a full-fledged Lund student!

This means that after the novice period you have more knowledge about how both Lund and your field of study work, you have acquired new friendships that will last a lifetime and you are now part of Lund's best association - Medicinska Föreningen!

Shortly after the 2nd admission, all new students will receive a welcome email from our dear novice generals who will explain what’s about to happen. Were you admitted from the reserve list or have not yet received your welcome email 1 week before the start of the semester? Email the novice generals at:

Checklist for new students

  • Studentlund is the membership to Lund's student life. By joining Studentlund, you automatically become a member of Medicinska Föreningen and a nation (which you choose when you come down to Lund). The membership gives you the opportunity to participate and get involved in both our and the nations' activities, as well as several other associations and happenings in Lund. The membership also allows you to apply for housing via AF Bostäder, the student housing association.

    Note!

Always double check that it says Medicinska Föreningen (MF) on your account before you pay for your membership. If you have studied something at another faculty at Lund University, there will be another student association listed. This does not change automatically and can only be corrected by the Vice President. Upon payment, the membership locks and then it is not possible to be refunded or change to full membership for the semester. Contact the Vice President at vice@mfskane.se for help in changing student association to MF or adding support membership. Attach your admission letter or registration certificate from ladok.

  • As a new student, the housing situation in Lund can feel hopeless. Many students choose to rent a room, live outside of Lund or sublease for a couple of semesters. Since Lund is great biking city, you do not have to live in the city center to easily get around. As a member of Studentlund, you can join AF Bostäder's student housing queue. They provide both student apartments and student corridors to students at the university. If you live outside Skåne and have not studied in Lund before, you receive priority to some of the student accommodations before the start of the semester.

  • The novice period gives you, as a new student, a fantastic opportunity to get to know Lund, the student life, your new education and, above all, meet new friends! During two wonderful weeks, you will create a lot of new memories through activities such as dinners, competitions and parties. You sign up through the form in the welcome email from the Novice Generals.

  • Lund is a biking city! If you do not already own a bicycle, it is a good idea to acquire one. It will, without doubt, be well used during your time as a student at the university.

  • Moving to a new city and enrolling at an entirely new university can seem scary and overwhelming, but don’t sweat it! Everything will be fine!
